Annual Membership Celebration

The Chamber's Annual Membership Celebration, formerly the Golden Gala, is held each year to celebrate the past year's accomplishments and honor recipients of the Citizen of the Year Award, Legends Award (a special honor given on special occasions), Ambassador of the Year, and Young Professional of the Year.  The event includes live entertainment, food, fun, and great opportunities to network.

Citizen of the Year

The Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce annually presents its Citizen of the Year Award to honor a man or woman who has made significant contributions to the Greenville-Pitt County community.  The presentation of this award dates back to 1967, when Dr. Leo Jenkins (sixth chancellor of East Carolina University) was honored as the very first recipient.  The award represents a prestigious recognition by the community of the recipient's commitment and dedication to the advancement of Greenville.

Citizens and Chamber members are encouraged to nominate persons they feel are deserving of this recognition.  To be considered for the award, the nominee should be someone who enjoys a reputation for continuous community service, has been honored for involvement with business-related and/or personal affiliations or professional associations, and has made a difference in the community in recent years.

Legends Award

The Legends Award is a special honor given on occasion at the Chamber's Annual Membership Celebration (Golden Gala).  Legends Award recipients are citizens whose service to the community has been so significant in civic, economic, political, educational and/or religious activities over a sustained period of time that the history of Pitt County could not be written without their inclusion.

Ambassador of the Year

An Ambassador is a special volunteer for the Chamber—they are the personal representative of the member and the liaison between the Chamber board, the staff, and the members.  Chamber Ambassadors work to improve communications and continually encourage members to get involved in Chamber programs and events.
