Appreciation dinner honors Pitt County’s first responders

GREENVILLE, NC (JUNE 8, 2023) — To express support for first responders for their commitment and dedication to helping make Pitt County a safe place to live and do business, the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce hosted a First Responders Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday, June 7 at the Greenville Convention Center.  The event, presented by Avient and Southern Bank, drew first responders from several agencies in Pitt County, along with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, and included prize giveaways and the recognition of five first responders for their outstanding service.

“The Chamber was honored to recognize first responders in Pitt County for their selfless service,” said Trent McGee, president and CEO of the Chamber.  “With the generous support from several local businesses, the Chamber was able to make this event a celebratory occasion for the brave men and women who give of themselves day after day."

In recognition of their exceptional service and dedication to the safety and wellbeing of the citizens of Pitt County, awards were presented to first responders who were nominated by their peers.

Master Police Officer Ayyat Zeidan (Greenville Police Department) was recognized as the Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year.  Paramedic Michael Jones (Pitt County EMS) was recognized as the Outstanding EMT of the Year.  Battalion Chief Jeremy Cleaton (Greenville Fire-Rescue) was awarded the Outstanding Fire-Rescue Employee of the Year.  Dispatcher Sidney Wainwright (Pitt County Sheriff’s Office) was named the Outstanding Telecommunicator of the Year.

In grateful appreciation for his loyalty, dedication, and distinguished service to the Greenville Police Department, the Hometown Hero Award was bestowed to Greenville Police Chief Ted Sauls, Jr.

Each award recipient also received a monetary gift, courtesy of Southern Bank.

Local businesses donated over thirty prizes that were given away to first responders in attendance.

Additional sponsors for the First Responders Appreciation Dinner included the City of Greenville, Victra, ECU Health, Eastern Radiologists, and Pitt County.
