The North Carolina Department of Labor recognized area employers and employees at the agency's annual safety awards banquet held on Thursday, April 20, at the Pitt County Council on Aging in Greenville. The awards honor outstanding on-the-job safety achievements of each recipient during 2022. Recipients recognized during the event are located in Pitt and surrounding counties.
Labor Commissioner Josh Dobson delivered the keynote address during the banquet hosted by the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce.
The NCDOL's Safety Awards Program recognizes private and public firms throughout the state that achieve and maintain good safety records. To qualify for an annual safety award, a company must have no fatalities during the calendar year at the site or location for which the award was given and have maintained an incident rate at least 50-percent below the average for its particular industry group.
The Gold Award is based on the days away, restricted, transferred (DART) rate, which includes cases of days away from work, restricted activity or job transfer. The Silver Award is based only on cases with days away from work. They are recorded when the worker misses at least one full day of work, not including the day of the injury. Million Hour safety awards are given to firms which accumulate one million employee hours with no injuries or illnesses involving days away from work. Subsequent awards are given for each additional one million employee hours with no injuries or illnesses.
