Viva Electric Celebrates Women in the Trades

GREENVILLE, N.C. (March 15, 2022) — According to an article in the New York Times, in 2020 only 2.4% of electricians were women and only 9.5% of electrical contracting businesses were owned by women. March is International Women’s month and Viva Electric is proud to be part of that 9.5% percent. Viva Electric works with and supports women in the trades not only during International Women’s Month but every month of the year.

Maegan Giler is one of Viva Electric’s co-founders. She and co-founder Jimmy Giler were high school sweethearts and are now proud parents and stellar business partners. It was in 2017 that Maegan and Jimmy decided to go out on their own and start Viva Electric. “We are one big family. We care greatly about our employees, about our clientele, and we want to just light up everyone’s life. We want to do what we can to make everyone’s lives better,” Maegan said.

With Maegan’s leadership at the helm of Viva Electric, it’s no wonder that Viva Electric is becoming the fastest growing electrical company in the southeast. Viva Electric has opened locations in Lake Norman, Charlotte, Greenville, Wilmington and Raleigh since its inception in 2017 and has plans to continue growing. Maegan and the rest of the Viva Electric team are able to foster this growth while maintaining the highest level of customer service due to the Market Leader program.

But Maegan is not the only woman on the leadership team at Viva Electric, Michelle Cooke is Viva Electric’s Director of Operations. Michelle echoes the company vision of wanting to make Viva a place where employees and customers are made to feel like family. Her willingness to work hard, to pursue greater achievements and to shine a light wherever she goes is the spark that puts Viva ahead.

For any woman looking to start a career in the trades, Maegan shared a piece of advice in an interview with Service Titan. “Don’t discount yourself. Just because you are a woman in a male-dominated field does not mean that there’s not a place for you out there. I love construction. I love the trades. I’ve found a great fit for myself and I’m happy. There have been a couple of hurdles here and there but I think there’s definitely room out there in the trades for more females.”

Viva Electric is proud to work with women in the trades, creating opportunities for women to establish successful careers and work with their hands. Viva Electric is constantly searching for electricians to join the team and light up the lives of everyone around them.
