Pitt Community College Hosts ‘Bulldog Explorers’ Initiative for Pitt County Schools Students

GREENVILLE, NC (April 5, 2024)
– The Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with Pitt Community College and Pitt County Schools, is proud to announce the launch of the Bulldog Explorers program, scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Pitt Community College.

Bulldogs Explorers is an exciting new initiative that aims to offer elementary school students a special opportunity to explore and engage in a higher education environment. Bulldog Explorers is dedicated to demonstrating that learning is fun and that every student has the potential to pursue higher education. The program’s goal is to start with Pre-K programs, guiding children towards the goal of attending college. By participating in Bulldogs Explorers, children develop confidence in their abilities and are inspired to believe that they can achieve anything.

“Our middle name is ‘Community’ at PCC, and this college belongs to the citizens of all ages in Pitt County, said John Carrere, Director, Recruitment & First-Year Experience at Pitt Community college. We want to provide an open-door to explore the abundant opportunities a local education can provide.”

Approximately 50 enthusiastic 3rd through 5th graders from Creekside Elementary School will visit Pitt Community College’s Walter Marie Building for an engaging presentation from President Rouse. Following the presentation, the students will journey through various departments at PCC, including Early Childhood Education, Biotechnology, and Industrial Services. This experience provides them with a broad range of higher education and career opportunities right in their community.

“This pilot program stems off our program of work that aims to grow and develop talent in our community. Post K-12 career paths and education look different for every student, said Kimber Stone, Director of Development & Member Engagement at the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce. We are excited to partner with Pitt Community College in such a creative and impactful way that we hope will inspire these students and show them early-on that there is a future for everyone to works towards, and they can do so right here in Pitt County.”

The Bulldog Explorers program is part of the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to support educational initiatives that empower local students and promote the growth of the community.
