Council Approves Construction for Dream Park and Guy Smith Stadium

GREENVILLE, N.C. — The Greenville City Council on Thursday, December 15, 2023 approved a pair of construction contracts that will result in a renovated community building at the city's Dream Park and enhancements at Guy Smith Stadium.

The Council unanimously approved a $1.78 million contract with Farrior & Sons for the community building and a $710,000 contract with the Berry Building Group for the second phase of improvements at Guy Smith Stadium.

Work at the Dream Park will renovate the old fire station located at 1700 Chestnut Street into a new community building adjacent to the City's spray park. The new building will include a large assembly space, warming kitchen, lobby, office, storage room, and restrooms. The existing brick veneer will be preserved, and two large glass garage doors will pay homage to the structure's former use as a fire station. The work is expected to take six weeks with funding coming from the City's American Rescue Plan Act allocation.

Improvements at Guy Smith Stadium will be the second phase in a plan to prepare the stadium for hosting a Coastal Plains League baseball team next summer. Second phase changes include the creation of a gameday plaza with additional bleachers, restrooms, merchandise sales, and concessions. Seating capacity will be increased to 1,509 as a result of the changes. Costs for the Guy Smith Stadium project are funded by Capital Broadcasting and the Greenville-Pitt County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
