Great Duck Race Benefits Vidant Cancer Care

GREENVILLE, NC (December 21, 2021) – The Young Professionals of Pitt County raised $13,500 for Vidant Cancer Care during the organization’s inaugural Great Duck Race on Saturday, October 9, 2021.  The Great Duck Race, a collaborative partnership between the Young Professionals of Pitt County, Greenville Utilities Commission, the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce, and the Vidant Health Foundation, was created as a fun and unique way to get the community more involved in raising funds for the programs and services provided by Vidant Cancer Care.  Since 2015, the Young Professionals of Pitt County organization has raised over $62,000 for the Vidant Cancer Care Campaign, which allows for world-class cancer care in eastern North Carolina.

The Great Duck Race featured over 2,500 rubber ducks being placed into a confined portion of the Tar River.  Ducks were raced (guided) down the river and owners of the first three ducks to cross the finish line were awarded cash prizes.  Ducks were tagged with numbers to indicate the winners.  The Young Professionals of Pitt County partnered with local businesses to offer Duck adoptions in-person and online.

“The Young Professionals of Pitt County were so excited to introduce a new and exciting event to our community, all while continuing and expanding upon our annual fundraising efforts for Vidant Cancer Care,” said Aileen Peacock, chairperson of the Young Professionals of Pitt County. “We are so fortunate to have such an impressive and impactful cancer center in eastern North Carolina and the Young Professionals look forward to continuing our yearly fundraising efforts to benefit patients and families who need the programs and services offered by Vidant Cancer Care.”

Additional Duck Race partners/sponsors included Keller Williams Points East (Hunter Peyton, Realtor); the Big Vape Theory; Victra; Carolina Breast Imaging Specialists, PLLC; Eastern Radiologists; DHG Wealth Advisors LLC; City of Greenville; and Delcor Inc.

The Great Duck Race replaced the Young Professionals of Pitt County’s annual “Wiggin’ Out for Charity” event.  One-hundred percent of the proceeds from each duck adoption were donated to Vidant Cancer Care programs and services in Pitt County.
