Grow Local

Grow Local did a fantastic job of matching my students to a field trip that they enjoyed and learned from. Our field trip prompted great conversation, led to potential volunteer opportunities, and provided experiences that my students could benefit from in the future. I would recommend that other teachers take advantage of the Grow Local program to enrich their classes and help them make community connections to strengthen their programs.

Grow Local is an incredible opportunity for students in Pitt County to see the potential career growth that is available in Eastern North Carolina. Not only does it ignite a spark in the students, but it shows them that fulfilling, lifelong careers can be created from the passions that they love. Hope MS students, along with classroom teacher Kimberly Burch, had a good visit with us at the Medical Center Branch of Southern Bank, as we walked through some financial education. Danielle Hodges (Branch Manager at our Winterville Branch) did a great job leading the students through the content and kept them very engaged with a creative game. Fresh donuts were served and a “branch tour” took place as well, with students taking a particular interest in the Vault and the Teller Line.
