GREENVILLE, NC - The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina (HSEC) is working to save the lives of hundreds of homeless animals in Eastern North Carolina by raising funds through its annual "A Night to Paws" cocktail-casual event in April. Since its inception in 2014, the event is credited with generating nearly $185,000.
"The Humane Society of Eastern Carolina operates solely on private donations and does not receive any funding from federal, state, or local governments. Every penny raised makes a difference in the organization's day-to-day operations," said event co-chair, Eva Marie Dyba. "If we didn't have A Night to Paws, this organization would have to scale back on services and could not continue to take in as many cats and dogs which need our help."
The fifth annual fundraiser dinner and silent auction is being held on Saturday, April 6 from 6:00 - 10:00 p.m., at the Hilton Greenville. This year, the featured pet is Lily Lookabaugh.
“A Night to Paws is our largest fundraiser of the year. It’s a fun-filled evening for all to come out and help celebrate our furry friends and the many donors who help HSEC fulfill its mission to help homeless and neglected cats and dogs find their forever homes,” said Dyba.
Event tickets are $65 each and include a complimentary cocktail hour sponsored by Coastal Beverage Co., a selection of passed hors d’oeuvres, and a plated three-course dinner. This year’s event is emceed by WNCT 9 On Your Side morning anchor, Humane Society of Eastern Carolina board member, and A Night to Paws event co-chair, Maria Satira. The event will also utilize the mobile bidding system, BidPal. This will allow supports to easily bid on nearly 200 silent auction packages and purchase raffle tickets for various items through their cellphones.
“Using an online service is all about convenience for our supporters,” said Dyba. “Individuals can go online and buy event tickets, sponsorships, raffle tickets, and bid on silent auction items. People can even make donations on-line. We want everyone to have a chance to participate in the evening whether they are able to attend or not.”
During the event program attendees will learn about the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina, hear adoption testimonials, and enjoy entertainment provided by popular band, Built for Comfort.
“It is an honor for Built for Comfort Band to be performing for A Night to Paws,” said drummer Joe Tronto. “It brings us great pleasure to be part of this great fund raising event for the second year. Everyone in the band loves animals and even some of us are rescue owners.”
The Humane Society of Eastern North Carolina is also introducing corporate and local sponsorships for the event. Organizers say this is a great way for local businesses and individuals to help give an animal a second chance at life, a forever home, and assist in the mission of the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina. If supporters are unable to attend the event there are plenty of other ways to assist in the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina’s mission by adopting, volunteering, and donating. Adopt a furry family member by visiting the adoption center, Thursday and Friday from 1 to 5pm or Saturday from 9am-1pm, located at 3520 Tupper Drive in Greenville. The organization is always searching for animal-loving volunteers and foster families. Volunteers can help at events or at the facility throughout the week. Fosters are able to host animals at their homes non-adoption days so they can work on obedience, socialization, and interaction. Adoption, volunteer, and foster information is available at hsecarolina.org, along with online tax-deductible donation options.
