Gray Workman Williams received the Rising Star Award
Greenville Convention & Visitors Bureau received the 2016 Gold Award for Public Relations for mid-sized Destination Marketing Organizations (DMO’s) for its Visit Greenville, NC Destination Video

GREENVILLE, NC – The Greenville-Pitt County Convention & Visitors Bureau (Visit Greenville, NC or GPCCVB) received two Destination Marketing Association of North Carolina (DMANC) Achievement Awards at the recent North Carolina Tourism Industry Association (NCTIA) NC Tourism Leadership Conference held September 28 – 30 in Winston-Salem. This annual conference offers opportunities for staff members from NC’s destination marketing organizations (DMO’s) and industry partners to learn about relevant tourism issues from industry leaders and experts, network with other tourism professionals, and recognize the successful marketing achievements of DMO’s across the state.

Gray Workman Williams, Sports Sales Manager, was honored with the Destination Marketing Achievement Rising Star Award. Williams received this recognition for her immediate impact on the GPCCVB and destination marketing in North Carolina. Williams became the first person to hold the position of Sports Sales Manager, when this position was created in early 2015 to help Greenville maximize economic impact through sports tourism. Williams was selected for this honor for her ability to integrate herself into the North Carolina sports tourism industry becoming a board member of Visit North Carolina’s Sports NC and establishing excellent relationships with local, state, and national tournament directors to facilitate bringing a wide range of sporting events to Greenville and Pitt County. In her first year of selling Greenville as a sports destination, Williams booked 57 tournaments ranging from soccer, lacrosse, and baseball, to fencing, ultimate Frisbee, and gymnastics. These tournaments generated an estimated economic impact of $6 million dollars to the local economy, at an average of just over $105,000 per tournament.

“I was flattered to accept the 2016 Destination Rising Star Award! Greenville-Pitt County is a growing destination with lots to offer, which makes my job of promoting the area exciting!” stated Williams. “With all the new attractions, economic drivers, and public/private partnerships, we are setting ourselves up for success, and I’m glad to be a part of this community.”

The GPCCVB also won a Destination Marketing Achievement 2016 Gold Award for Public Relations for mid-sized Destination Marketing Organizations (DMO’s) for its Visit Greenville, NC Destination Video. This destination video was created in 2015 in collaboration with Evolve, Inc., a local Greenville advertising agency.

“The video does an amazing job of showcasing the reality that you can find many unique experiences and places in Greenville and Pitt County to find yourself in good company,” stated Andrew Schmidt, Executive Director of the GPCCVB. “Our legendary barbecue joints, craft breweries, local restaurants, boutiques, river, and many more community and tourism assets are featured to help create a sense of place and give viewers an inside look into what makes Greenville and Pitt County special.”

Following the launch, the video was widely shared on social media and many GPCCVB business and organization partners have featured it on their website and currently use it for their education, marketing, and recruitment efforts. The video can be viewed here, or on the homepage.
