The North Carolina Travel Industry Association (NCTIA) is the only member-based statewide organization that encompasses all aspects of the industry, and provides resources for anyone interested in issues relative to North Carolina‘s travel and tourism economy. The annual NCTIA Tourism Leadership Conference allows state tourism leaders to come together for networking, educational sessions, discussion of relevant legislative issues, and to recognize excellence in marketing through the Destination Marketing Achievement Awards.

“Sports tourism generated over $10 million dollars in estimated economic impact for Greenville-Pitt County during the 2016 – 2017 fiscal year compared to just over $6 million dollars during the 2015 – 2016 fiscal year,” stated Andrew Schmidt, Executive Director of the Greenville-Pitt County CVB. “Our public relations and marketing efforts within the sports market have certainly contributed to the increase in the number of booked tournaments in our area, and to be recognized by our destination marketing peers is truly an honor.”

The Greenville-Pitt County Convention & Visitors Bureau collaborated with Evolve, Inc., a local Greenville-based advertising agency to create these marketing pieces for our sport tourism sales and marketing program. The Greenville-Pitt County CVB’s Sports Sales team utilizes these marketing tools at many sports industry conferences, tradeshows, and meetings across the nation to provide information and generate interest in bringing sports tournaments and events to Greenville-Pitt County.

“It is so exciting to be recognized for the hard work our team has put into growing sport tourism in the Greenville-Pitt County community,” stated Gray Workman Williams, Sports Sales Manager at the Greenville-Pitt County CVB. “With recognition like these awards and economic impact numbers generated by sports tourism up nearly 70% this year, our team is only more motivated to keep the momentum going and earn a reputation as a leader in the sport tourism industry.”
