What is Leadership Institute?
The Leadership Institute, presented by Attends Healthcare Products, is a balanced combination of leadership training and educational experiences, including presentations, dialogues, a retreat and community project(s) over an eight-month period (September - April).
- The program provides participants with an in-depth look at specific topics of community interest, such as city and county government, education, health resources, non-profit organizations, law enforcement and the courts, and the economic diversity of Pitt County.
- Developed by The Chamber to ensure a continuing reservoir of leadership talent for the future, the LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE consists of one full day and a two-hour lunch session each month as well as an overnight retreat, designed to inform, to challenge, and to motivate leaders to become involved in supporting and directing the future of Pitt County.
How are Participants Selected?
The course is designed for those who represent various business and professional sectors of the community. Those who want to learn more about the community while developing and refining leadership skills are encouraged to participate, whether they are new to Greenville or have lived here for many years.
The Leadership Steering Committee selects the participants after careful consideration of their leadership potential, community interest and involvement, accomplishments, recommendations, and ability to assume community responsibility. The course is limited to 24 participants.

What is the Cost?
Tuition for the 2009-2010 Leadership Institute is $950. Chamber membership is required to be considered for the Leadership Institute. In most cases, participants are recommended for the program by their employer and the employer covers all or part of the tuition payment.
What is the Schedule/Time Commitment?
Leadership Institute requires a serious commitment of time. Participants should be prepared to devote a minimum of one full day and a two-hour lunch session each month as well as an overnight retreat at the beginning of the program. The program lasts from September, 2009 - April, 2010.
What are the Attendance Requirements?
Attendance at the overnight retreat is mandatory and is a pre-requisite for the Leadership Institute. Participation in the class project is also required for graduation. Any participant missing more than two session will not be considered a graduate of the Leadership Institute. However, you will be encouraged to continue the program and receive a Certificate of Participation. The class project and "Learn Where You Live" components are required for participation and may require additional time above and beyond scheduled meeting days. The success of this program will depend on full participation in both the scheduled meetings days and the class project.
Are There Any Additional Requirements?
Participants will also be asked to participate in group projects that will require some additional meetings and time commitment outside of the all-day sessions.
