In March 2012, the Greenville-Pitt County Chamber of Commerce will (again) organize a memorable 9-day journey to China for our community. The trip will be a cost-effective opportunity for members of the Greenville-Pitt County community to learn about China's rapidly changing economy and its expanding role in the global marketplace. In addition, participants will become familiar with the customs and the history of some of the leading cities in China and become more familiar with how Chinese leadership is handling rapid economic growth.
Back in March, 53 community members visited China, one of the most ancient mores in the world, and one that, over the years, has become a global powerhouse. Since, 2010 the Chinese economy ranks as the second largest (behind the United States) economy in the world and it is fascinating to learn of the economic transitions the country has made. The group visited the leading cities of Beijing, Suzhou, Hangzhou and Shanghai. In addition to city-stops, the group also visited the jade, pearl and silk factories, and a green tea plantation – all of which are leading industries in China; this allowed for a better understanding of how the country’s industry leaders implement their task-oriented and intellectual styles to further expand their economy.
China is already the world’s largest country, in terms of population, and by the year 2025, China is expected to have 1.4 billion people. The fast pace at which the country operates on a daily basis is astonishing and past participants will tell you, it was quite the culture shock. In the same breath, past participants will also note to the benefits of being able to interact with Chinese citizens and how the tour is packed with exposure to a must see culture.
The Chamber hopes you will take part in this rare opportunity to get a real-life perspective on China’s rapidly growing economy. For more information on how you can take part in this unique experience, please contact the Chamber of Commerce at (252) 752-4101.
